Аннотация. В статье рассматривается проблема функционирования топонимики в рассказах Амброза Бирса, произведён анализ топонимов как единой системы, выявление взаимосвязей этой системы с особенностями художественного мира рассказов. На примере анализа топонимов в творчества Бирса предложена методика изучения топонимикона художественных произведений конкретного писателя, что позволяет выявить авторский стиль, является ключом к пониманию мировоззрения писателя. Данный литературоведческий метод анализа художественных произведений может быть применён в учебном процессе Высшей школы и в школьном изучении зарубежной литературы. Изучена роль определенных топонимов в художественном пространстве рассказов писателя, интригующих читателя, мотивирующих на заданное понимание произведений, отражающих доминантную атмосферу. Исследование использования и корреляции топонимов в рассказах, их частотность, помогает понять особенности творчества А. Бирса. Бирс использует топонимы как для передачи достоверных событий, так и для создания страшной атмосферы. Топонимы в рассказах писателя являются и приёмами воплощения исторических реалий, и выступают в качестве фона действий. Топонимы в произведениях Бирса формируют особую художественную модель пространства-времени. Писатель, опираясь на традиции страшного рассказа, создаёт художественное пространство «предупреждения» через посредство переживания страха. TOPONYMS IN LITERARY ART SPACE OF SHORT STORIES BY AMBROSE BIERCE: PROBLEMS OF STUDYING AND TEACHING FOREIGN LITERATURE E.S. Mikhaleva Moscow Region State University Abstract. The article deals with the problem of the functioning of toponymy in Ambrose Bierce`s short stories, analysis of toponyms as unified system, identify the relationship of this system with the features of the feature stories world. On the example of the analysis of toponyms in Bierce's short stories, a method is proposed for studying the toponymy of literary texts of a particular writer, which makes it possible to identify the author's style and is the key to understanding the writer's worldview. This literary method of analyzing literary texts can be applied in the educational process at the higher school and in the school study of foreign literature. The role of place-names in the art space of the writer's stories, intriguing the reader, motivating a predetermined understanding of short stories that reflect the dominant atmosphere is studied. The research of use and correlation of names in the stories, their frequency helps to understand the characteristics of creativity by A. Bierce. Bierce uses place names both to convey reliable events and to create a scary atmosphere. Place names in the writer's short stories are both methods of embodying historical realities and act as a background for actions. Place names in Bierce's short stories form a special artistic model of space-time. The writer, relying on the traditions of a scary story, creates an artistic space of "warning" through the experience of fear.
